You can naturally launder your clothes with bleach and hot water to kill off fleas in them. However, you may wonder if it is possible to use that bleach around your home to kill fleas. This puzzling question comes to mind because you are seeking a more cost-effective solution to the flea problem. In this article, we will help you make the best decision about using bleach to kill fleas.

Does Bleach Kill Fleas

Yes, bleach can kill fleas and their eggs and larva. Bleach kills fleas by disrupting their internal make-up and is very useful for breaking through the life cycle. However, you need to make sure these things encounter the bleach. If they do not, the exercise will be futile. Therefore, your application method matters a lot.

You should equally consider the fact that adult fleas might go into hiding once they perceive the fumes of the bleach. Bear in mind that these fumes will not kill them but only discomfort the fleas and further push them into hiding.

How to use bleach to kill fleas

·      Step 1 – Protection

Before application, protect yourself against the fumes of the bleach. It is harmful to you and your household. Wear protective clothing and mask before you begin.

·      Step 2 – Wipe surfaces

Mix equal portions of water and bleach together. Use this solution to wipe surfaces using surfaces. You can wipe your floors, furniture, carpets, and even bathrooms with the mixture. Look for the deepest hiding spots and rub vigorously. You can also add the mixture to a spray bottle and sprinkle around your home.

·      Step 3 – Ventilate

After allowing the bleach solution to stand in place for a few hours, open all the windows in your home to let the fumes out.

·      Step 4 – Vacuuming

Vacuuming on its own can eliminate a large portion of fleas from your home. You can combine vacuuming with bleach applications to get rid of an enormous population of fleas from your home. Make sure to use a strong vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to effectively catch and trap fleas.

·      Step 5 – Wash with bleach

To kill fleas in your clothes, wash every bleach-compatible item at the hottest possible temperature. You should never use bleach on colored fabrics or clothes that wear off with harsh chemical applications.

Please note: Never use bleach on your pet’s furs. Bleach is very toxic for pets and can cause more harm than good. Consult your vets for effective flea treatments for your pets. You should also be careful about using bleach around indoor plants. If the bleach solution seeps into your vases, it can kill the plants.
