Cats are beguiling, warm and carefree. Their silly and senseless exercises can change your demeanor in minutes. Sometimes however they bring us unwanted presents one of such being cat fleas. Cat fleas are little parasites, a kind of bug that sucks on host’s blood. Fleas can be a lot of burden for cats similarly as their owners. Talking about the misery, fleas cause a lot of it. They cause a steady disturbance, making your furry friend and you, unhappy. While strays are more common prey to cat fleas, sometime strict to home cats can also get fleas. At this point often question arises “How did my indoor cat get fleas?”

How Did my Indoor Cat Get Fleas?

Fleas are excellent hitchhikers; they transfer from one animal to other or via other means such as clothes that are left out to dry after laundry. So even if your cat is strictly indoors, they can get fleas via other pets, via clothes that have been brought inside after a dry up outside, or even sometimes by their humans who unwittingly bring them home.

The cat flea bites are dangerous not because they cause swelling, redness, or irritation but since they can transmit various ailments. Some of them can even be potentially lethal to your furry friend. Salivation of feline bugs can cause dermatitis in pets. They can likewise cause spread of plague and murine typhus which is a bacterial illness and is for the most part cause in situations when a feline insect is removed from rodents’ body and pick their new host. Feline bugs are one of the fundamental bearers of tapeworms. They can likewise move Dipylidium canninum  (Linnaeus), and the rat tapeworm,  Hymenolepis diminuta  (Rudolphi), which are various types of tapeworms.

Treatments

Luckily cat fleas can be treated easily. There are drugs available in the market or you can prepare some at home. You should use flea sprays or shampoos in case you found fleas in your cat fur. Apart from that try to groom you cat on regular basis. Mow your lawn regularly as fleas love long grass. Don’t allow damp conditions to occur in your home. Try to use healthy pesticides on your lawn grass. In case you find any of the allergic or disease reactions in your cat, visit your vet immediately as some of the disease caused by fleas can be fatal. Prevention is always key, when possible, but even if your cat happens to pick up fleas there are treatment options to help!
